Style & Speed Social on Aug. 3 will be a Night to Remember!

The Milwaukee Club is a private club that has hosted events for more than 100 years – the perfect setting for enjoying food and music from the past. At a cocktail party in 1932 you would have been served Welsh Rabbit, BBQ Chicken Legs, Vegetable Patties, Clam Dip, Cucumber/Watercress sandwiches and Egg Salad sandwiches. Interestingly, variations of most of these choices continue to be popular today.

In 1946 Quiche Lorraine gained popularity when Gourmet magazine printed the recipe. It became a brunch mainstay and a popular hors d’oeuvre. In the 1950s Brandied Cheese Dip, influenced by the British Stilton cheese, became the still-popular Brandied Blue Cheese Dip. Trader Vic’s in the 1960s gave us Wedding Reception Rumaki, bacon wrapped in water chestnuts.

Pat’s legendary South Philly Steak will be served along with Buffalo Wings, which originated in 1964 at the Anchor Bar. The wings were dipped in butter with spices, deep-fried and served with bleu cheese dressing and celery sticks. They continue to be served today with the dressing and celery sticks.

There will be several more additions to these food options. Also, watch this website for details regarding the desserts.

Musical Memories from the 1940s – 1960s

The three rooms of music will include: Big Band sounds such as Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman; 1950s Rock ‘n’ Roll with Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Ben E. King and the Marvels to name a few; and ‘60s classics, including Aretha Franklin, the Supremes, Peter, Paul and Mary, plus the British invasion of Rock led by The Beatles.

While enjoying the great food and music, be sure to check out the silent auction items and bid, bid, bid, especially since all monies will be donated to our three charities: Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee and Meta House. There will also be a Bourbon tasting for those so inclined to experience these new options.

Please plan to attend this Night to Remember and enjoy the food, drinks and music of the evening. See you there.
