Porsche – two syllables please – is always a draw at any concours. For 2016, the Milwaukee Concours d’Elegance is featuring two classes of Porsche – early years as well as more recent, from 356s to 911s and more. This 1984 911 Targa in Porsche’s classic Guards Red paint is owned by Kim and Mac McGregor of Liberty Township, Ohio.
Original Owner Porsche 911 Targa
“Mac” is the original owner and has maintained the car since he acquired it new in 1984. Only maintenance parts have been refreshed—oil filters, wiper blades, tires, etc., and only OEM parts have been used. The car even rides on a current version of the tires that it was delivered with (Pirelli P7s). All underbody components are original to the car including all suspension pieces, exhaust system, etc.
One of 1,400 Porsche 911 Targas made in 1984
1984 marked the reintroduction of the legendary Carrera nameplate on a significantly updated version of the venerable 911. A virtually all new model, the ’84 911 included a larger displacement 3.2L power plant that knocked out a (then impressive) 200+ HP, a sub-6 second 0 to 60 time and a top speed of 146 mph. The successful launch of this updated model was largely responsible for Porsche’s continued commitment to and development of their air-cooled models in the face of mounting pressures to adopt water cooling. There were about 1,400 Targas manufactured in 1984, with about half of those coming to the U.S.
This 911 is an excellent example of a 100 percent original, one-owner, unrestored, survivor car.
