The Milwaukee Concours d’Elegance is partnering with Hagerty to drive the passion for classics with today’s youth. Fifteen boys and girls, ages 10 -12, from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee will serve as Youth Judges for the 2016 Milwaukee Concours d’ Elegance, Aug. 28, in Veterans Park.
John Splude of JWS Classics is the presenting sponsor and chief judge of the Hagerty Youth Judging program for the Milwaukee Concours d’Elegance.
Hagerty’s Youth Programs are designed to grow young people’s interest in the collector vehicle community by offering unique access to the fascinating world of classics. Through exciting activities, educational programs and hands on participation, Hagerty’s Youth Programs have provided more than 6,000 young people with opportunities to learn about classic cars. Through this program, a group of young judges will have the chance to get up close to select world-class Concours cars, meet the owners and learn the basics of judging.

Led through the show field by an adult guide, the young judges will learn historical features of select classics and be shown specific details that will help them score each car. Scores are based on a scale of one-to-five in five basic categories including design, interior, electrical, exterior finish, and engine. The Hagerty Youth Judging program is hosted at more than 100 collector vehicle events throughout the United States, Canada, and the U.K. each year.
The young judges will begin their work at 10 a.m. Their winning selection will be announced at noon with a presentation ceremony to the car owner. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the young judges donning blue shirts, red hats and carrying official scorecards.
“We are excited to add this element to our event, now in its 12th year,” said Gary Messing, president – The Masterpiece Ltd. “Hagerty’s Youth Programs are designed to ensure the future of the classic car hobby by driving the passion for classics and providing young people unique access to classic-car-related experiences. We greatly appreciate Mr. Splude’s and JWS Classic’s support to make this program possible at our event,” Messing said.
Vincent Lyles, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee noted that the young judges would be selected based on behavior, availability, overall Club participation and interest. “We’re pleased to expand our involvement with the Milwaukee Concours d’Elegance through this program and are confident we will have a tough time selecting the best essays,” Lyles said.
