Class standout: Factory supercharged Shelby GT350

Milwaukee, Wis. – (July 24, 2015) — Among the eight cars in the Shelby GT350 class of the 2015 Milwaukee Masterpiece Concours d’Elegance on Aug. 23, 2015, is an extremely rare factory supercharged Shelby GT350. Joining the 50 Years of the Shelby Mustang display from the personal collection of noted Shelby historian and collector Colin Comer is an extremely rare factory Paxton supercharged 1967 Shelby GT350.

Colin_ShelbyGT350Shelby only offered a factory installed Paxton supercharger option for the GT350 in 1966 and 1967. It was a very expensive (and relatively unknown) option so few were actually built. How few? 11 in 1966 and 28 in 1967.

And just how expensive was the factory-installed Paxton option? About $700. Compare that to the $200 the GT500 option cost and you can see why so few supercharged GT350s were built.

Production numbers (and superchargers) aside, Comer says he loves his Supercharged 1967 GT350 vs. the GT500 from a performance standpoint as well. He notes it is almost 300 lbs. lighter than a GT500 and that the Supercharged K Code 289 is a more eager performer than the 428 PI. Not to mention “it is a lot easier to change spark plugs,” he said.

Total 1967 Shelby Mustang production was low by any standard, making any Shelby Mustang of this year quite desirable:

  • 1967 GT500 total production: 2,044
  • 1967 GT350 total production: 1,135

Comer’s GT350 features its original drivetrain and all of its original Shelby/Paxton components. It was restored under the guidance of acknowledged 1967 Shelby experts and has won numerous high level SAAC and MCA shows as well as being the cover car for Musclecar Enthusiast Magazine in 2009.

You see this rare Shelby up close and personal at the Milwaukee Masterpiece on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, along with many more stunning examples of rare Shelby Mustangs from 1965-1970.
