Milwaukee, Wis. – April 30, 2019) — The 15th annual Milwaukee Concours d’Elegance on Aug. 4, in Veterans Park, will feature three classes of Porsche, representing the range of Porsche models from the earliest years – the iconic 356 – to the front-engine 924/944/968/928 models and the 911, the definition of Porsche design and engineering.
There is perhaps no better-informed Porsche owner in the Midwest than Hank Bernbaum, Lake Forest, Ill., who will be showing his 2015 918 Spyder Weissach Roadster, which caught the attention of attendees at the 2017 Milwaukee Concours. “Concours co-chairs Carrol and Carl Jensen want to bring back the Spyder as they feel it is the true statement of excellence,” he said.
“To celebrate our 15th anniversary, we are bringing back several of our Best of Show winners, the Bentley marque and Porsche,” Carrol Jensen said.
Bernbaum’s Porsche ownership started with a 1990 911 C4S which was followed by a 1995 911 C4S and then a 1997 911 Turbo S. “The 1990 964 was so cool with its simple, analog gauges,” Bernbaum said. He also acquired a 2018 911 GT2 RS and a 2019 Turbo S Cabriolet “Exclusive,” which was offered by Porsche through an allocation – a numbered car from a limited production run of 200.
Bernbaum was attracted to the Milwaukee Concours event because of its charitable outreach. He and his wife are very engaged in philanthropy that helps children and have a special interest in Autism. One of the charities that receive proceeds from the weekend of Milwaukee Concours events is the Autism Society of SE Wisconsin. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee and Meta House also receive distributions. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $350,000 for these charities.
“The show is only an hour away from my home in Illinois and the setting is beautiful,” Bernbaum said. “Also, I had the opportunity to meet Wayne Carini of Chasing Classic Cars when he was a celebrity judge. Further, I am impressed with the array of judges that this event features. Like Carrol and Carl, they are knowledgeable and engaging.”
Bernbaum said he also enjoys the Saturday morning Motor Tour which features the cars that are in Sunday’s judged concours as well as vehicles that are going to be in the casual car show component of Sunday called the Show & Glow Paddock. The tour will depart Veterans Park at 9:30 a.m. and spectators are welcome to watch the send-off.
